ANAWIM COMMUNITY

Anawim Community Standards

Anawim is a communications and community space grounded in the Catholic faith: every person is made in the image of God, has inviolable dignity, and is called to live truth in charity. Freedom of expression carries responsibility toward others; discipline protects vulnerable people, repairs harm, and makes room for conversion.

The four pillars below apply to profiles, posts, images, videos, comments, messages, communities, reports, and charitable activities on the website and app. These standards supplement the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy; they do not displace mandatory law, appeals, or lawful reporting. Version 2026-09-27.1, updated September 27, 2026.

Community standards

1. Respect for Life & Human Dignity

Protect every person from conception to natural death

Hate speech, dehumanization, incitement to discrimination, threats, bullying, harassment, and disclosure of private information to cause harm are prohibited. Do not degrade anyone on grounds of religion or lack of religion, race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, disability, illness, age, or social circumstances. Criticism of an idea never licenses humiliation of its adherents.

Pornography, erotic nudity, sexual coercion or solicitation, and non-consensual intimate material are prohibited; exploitation, grooming, or sexualization of minors is never tolerated. Promoting, threatening, or instructing violence, terrorism, suicide, or self-harm is prohibited, as is graphic violence intended to excite, intimidate, or humiliate.

Consistent with Anawim's Catholic identity, content advocating, campaigning for, or advertising direct abortion, euthanasia intended to cause death, assisted suicide, or the intentional taking of innocent life is prohibited. This does not prohibit moral questions, research, accurate reporting, seeking help, or sharing experiences to receive support. Do not condemn or shame people who have experienced abortion, psychological crisis, or bereavement.

Distinguish euthanasia from palliative care and refusal of excessive or disproportionate treatment; do not label every end-of-life treatment decision as an attack on life. Educational, medical, sacred-art, and public-interest material must be contextual, non-exploitative, and non-sensational, and may require warnings or age restrictions. Contextual exceptions never permit distribution of child sexual abuse material.

2. Constructive Freedom of Expression

Speak frankly with truth and respect

Anawim permits diverse discussion, questions, doubts, disagreement, and evidence-based criticism concerning theology, society, politics, Church governance, and Anawim's activities. Distinguish facts, opinions, and beliefs; cite sources for contested factual assertions, quote in context, and correct information known to be false. A minority opinion or uncomfortable criticism is not itself a violation.

Do not invoke free expression to deliberately blaspheme God, desecrate or demean the sacred, the sacraments, Scripture, religious symbols, or worship. Slander, fabrication, deceptive editing, malicious public shaming, and organized harassment of clergy, religious, or laity are prohibited. Quotation for research, criticism, reporting, or submitting an abuse report is assessed in its actual purpose, presentation, and context.

Protection of clergy's reputation must never conceal wrongdoing. Good-faith concerns, abuse reports, responsible journalism, demands for accountability, and reporting to competent authorities are protected. A complainant need not obtain a conviction before reporting; distinguish allegations from verified findings, safeguard victims, and avoid unnecessary disclosure of personal information. Retaliation against good-faith complainants, witnesses, or reporters is prohibited.

3. Protecting Unity & Preventing Sabotage

Be faithful to Scripture; protect conscience and religious freedom

Promoting heresy or schism on Anawim is prohibited, including deliberately presenting views contrary to established Church teaching as official Catholic doctrine, impersonating ecclesiastical authority, recruiting others to break ecclesial communion, or organizing campaigns to sabotage communities. Do not fabricate revelations, miracles, statements, or documents, distort Scripture or sources, or spread harmful falsehoods affecting faith, reputation, health, safety, or finances. AI-generated or altered material likely to mislead must be disclosed.

Learning, historical research, interreligious dialogue, presenting a position for analysis, and good-faith questioning do not automatically constitute promotion of heresy or schism. For doctrinal disputes, moderators must consult Scripture within the Church's interpretive tradition, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and relevant magisterial documents, seeking qualified advice when needed. Anawim governs platform use; it does not claim authority to pronounce doctrinal judgments or impose canonical penalties on an individual.

Propaganda for harmful ideologies is prohibited when it promotes totalitarianism, violence, class or racial hatred, coercion of conscience, persecution, or denial of religious freedom. Extreme atheism is prohibited where it incites eradication of religious life, coerced renunciation of faith, harassment of believers, or justification of persecution. Rules address content and conduct, without discriminating against atheists, people of other religions, or those exploring faith. Objective philosophical debate, policy criticism, and study of ideologies are permitted.

4. Charitable Transparency & Honesty

Do not exploit trust or manufacture credibility

Every appeal for donations or support must identify the responsible person or organization, beneficiary or community, purpose, time frame, costs, receiving channel, progress reporting, and reasonable evidence of need. Physical-item orders must disclose item types, quantities, prices, and purchasing, preparation, and delivery responsibilities. Distinguish donations, operational support, memberships, and physical-item services under the Terms; do not claim charitable status, tax exemption, or tax deductibility without substantiation.

Donation fraud, fabricated hardship, impersonation of clergy or organizations, altered records, misuse of funds, concealed receipts, false delivery evidence, and unauthorized payment diversion are prohibited. Do not promise grace, forgiveness, miracles, or financial returns to pressure contributions. Transparency must protect the dignity, images, and information of poor people, children, and patients; suffering must not be exploited for attention.

Using automated tools, bots, deceptive secondary accounts, account networks, purchased engagement, or coordinated deception to inflate views, likes, followers, comments, shares, achievements, or campaign credibility is strictly prohibited. Do not create accounts to evade sanctions, impersonate multiple people, file dishonest mass reports, or conceal sponsors. Accessibility tools, permitted scheduling, and legitimate accounts are not prohibited merely for using automation or sharing a device; deception and manipulation are the prohibited conduct.

With sufficient grounds, Anawim may require verification, remove appeals, suspend campaigns or solicitation privileges, and work with payment providers. Refunds, order fulfillment, and remedies follow transaction terms and applicable law; account sanctions do not automatically extinguish those rights.

Three-step enforcement process

Violation levelEnforcement actionExamples and measures
Step 1 | MinorConfidential warning / Content removal

For a first minor violation, disrespectful language, or an unverified claim without clear danger. A private warning is sent in Anawim's name, without public shaming and with reporter and moderator identities protected; the recipient still receives the content reference, applicable rule, and appeal route.

Hide or remove violating content; allow 24 hours to correct safely remediable issues. Record confirmed misconduct and explain corrective steps. Dangerous content is not left available pending that deadline.

Step 2 | Moderate or repeatedTemporary suspension for 7-30 days

For repeated misconduct after a warning or materially harmful conduct, such as repeated harassment, deliberate desecration, harmful falsehoods, engagement manipulation, or moderation evasion. Remove content and suspend posting, commenting, messaging, support appeals, or the entire account according to risk.

The duration is 7 to 30 days. Notify the start, end, scope, and reasons for the chosen restriction. Restore access after the period subject to the review outcome; appeal access and transaction rights remain protected.

Step 3 | Severe or deliberate recurrencePermanent ban / IP blocking when necessary

For deliberate continued misconduct after suspension or particularly serious violations such as child exploitation, credible violent threats, intentional donation fraud, or coordinated sabotage. Remove content and permanently ban the account following an authorized human decision; emergency restrictions may take effect before review is complete.

Use IP blocking or equivalent measures only when needed to prevent evasion, subject to Section 9. Preserve necessary evidence, restrict harmful contact or transactions, and report as required by applicable law. Permanent bans remain reviewable where evidence shows error; they do not automatically remove refund, fulfillment, or lawful complaint rights.

System enforcement plan

5. Three-Step Enforcement Process

Private warning and removal; suspension for 7-30 days; permanent ban

The enforcement table sets out three ordinary steps based on severity and repeated misconduct. Each case is assessed on evidence, context, harm, risk, intent, and confirmed previous violations; report volume or an automated score alone does not establish a violation. Multiple reports of the same content do not create multiple strikes; overturned decisions must be removed from the corresponding violation record.

Particularly serious violations or immediate danger may warrant suspension or a permanent ban without completing all three steps, including child exploitation, credible violent threats, deliberate fraud, or coordinated sabotage. Emergency action must be recorded and referred for authorized human review; appeals remain available. Numerous reports, disagreement, a shared network, or declining to admit fault are not independent grounds for escalation.

6. Detection and Moderation

Tools assist detection; people remain responsible for decisions

Filters and artificial intelligence, within deployed capabilities and the Privacy Policy, may help detect dangerous material, spam, fraud, and unusual engagement for priority review or temporary restrictions. Tools may misread dialects, quotations, images, or religious context; automated scores alone must not determine that someone promotes heresy or justify a permanent ban.

Moderators assess original content, evidence, explanations, and impact, recording the applicable rule, action, scope, duration, and responsible reviewer. Permanent decisions require confirmation by an authorized person. Reports involving children, suicide risk, or imminent violence receive priority; private material is accessed only as necessary, with appropriate permissions and the disclosed processing basis.

7. Content Hiding and Distribution Limits

Precautionary restrictions require scope and review

During verification, potentially risky material may be temporarily hidden, warning-gated, age-restricted, limited in comments or shares, or downranked. Confirmed prohibited content must be removed, not merely downranked. Undisclosed distribution limits, sometimes called shadowbans, may be considered only for spam, evasion, fake engagement, or harmful campaigns when immediate notice could increase risk or obstruct verification.

Every restriction must record its reason, scope, and review time. It must not continue indefinitely as a silent penalty or suppress good-faith disagreement. Anawim provides reasons and an appeal route where possible, withholding only what is necessary to protect reporters, safety, or lawful investigations. If a violation is not confirmed, lift restrictions and restore content and relevant access as far as possible.

8. Appeals, Correction, and Restoration

Fair reconsideration and charitable accompaniment

A person subject to enforcement may request reconsideration through Anawim support or [email protected], identifying the account, content or decision reference if available, grounds for disagreement, and supporting evidence. This route remains available when the account is locked. Do not resend child sexual abuse material, confessional secrets, or unnecessary sensitive information; provide safe descriptions and content identifiers.

Anawim receives the request, assigns another or more senior reviewer where possible, checks the evidence, and explains whether the decision is upheld, reduced, or reversed. The target for an initial response is 7 working days; complex cases receive progress updates. An appeal does not automatically lift necessary safety measures or restrict access to competent authorities.

Users need not admit fault, change beliefs, or withdraw reports to receive appeal review. Where a violation is confirmed, corrections, retractions, and commitment to compliance may support restoration. Access is restored when suspension expires unless a new reasoned decision is notified. Moderation errors must be corrected and removed from the violation history. Mercy seeks reform while preserving responsibility to protect victims.

9. IP Blocking and Data Protection

Prevent evasion while protecting innocent users

A permanent ban concerns the offending account or person under a reasoned decision; it does not automatically permanently block an IP address. An IP address identifies a network connection and is only a technical signal, not conclusive proof of identity. Evidence of ban evasion or coordinated attacks may justify IP blocking or equivalent measures within supported capabilities, with documented scope, duration, and review.

Consider dynamic addresses, mobile networks, households, parishes, and shared public connections, preferring effective measures that minimize harm to innocent users. Anyone mistakenly blocked may still contact [email protected]. Evidence and logs are retained, accessed, and disclosed only for necessary purposes under the Privacy Policy and applicable law. Reporter identities are not publicly exposed, and absolute anonymity against lawful requests is not promised.
